The YDP is a non-competitive program which focuses on young dancers’ imaginative and creative potential and aims to develop each child’s full expressiveness through movement. Children are placed in levels based on their age; in some cases, a child may be put in a younger class if he or she is new to dance.

"We have been consistently involved with the Young Dancers’ Program since our daughter was three. We have kept our involvement with this particular program because of the excitement and sense of accomplishment that is reflected on the young children's faces. The teachers truly inspire the children with their positive energy, warmth, and gentle teaching." – Parent of nine-year old "I currently have two daughters involved in the program. I have really enjoyed watching my older daughter grow from a shy girl who stood back and watched the rest of the class into an enthusiastic participant. The confidence she has gained through participating in the classes and the performances has carried over into her school activities as well. The difference in her is magical. The classes have also truly captured the imagination of my younger daughter. She lights up when she demonstrates the sequences from her class at home." – Parent of eight and five-year olds |
“The School of Toronto Dance Theatre is the perfect environment to start a child in a creative class. The teachers are so kind-hearted and wonderfully suited to teach dance, music, and rhythm. My four-year old girl is excited to go every week, and for the past few months, has become so aware of herself, how her body moves, and musical sounds in general that she has started to creative her own ‘dances’ and performs them for us almost every night.” – Parent of four-year old
