Susan Kendal

Young Dancers' Program Faculty member

Susan Kendal is a Toronto-based independent dance artist. Involved in a number of aspects of the art form, she choreographs, teaches, performs, costumes, and writes about dance. As a teacher, she offers word and movement integration workshops for public school students and dance professionals, and teaches creative movement for The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s Young Dancers’ Program. She has also choreographed for the dance programs at Cawthra Park Secondary School, Unionville High School, and Edmonton Contemporary Dancers. She is particularly devoted to the creation of integrated word and movement projects through her company Pocket Alchemy. Her recent projects include a 2011 Toronto Fringe production called Scienceography: dances of physiology, entomology and psychology, which featured her choreography Organ Stories and was performed by fellow YDP staff member Krista Posyniak; a commissioned work for Simcoe Contemporary Dancers; and Mountain Girl, a solo for Toronto-based dancer Brittany Duggan.

Kendal is the Managing Editor of The Dance Current magazine and a board member for Kemi Contemporary Dance Projects. Born and raised in Edmonton, she studied with the Alberta Children’s Creative Dance Theatre and the Edmonton School of Ballet. She is a graduate of The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s Professional Training Program. She is also the lucky and proud mom of Rudi.
