Krista Posyniak

Young Dancers' Program Faculty Member

Born in Kamloops, BC, Krista Posyniak dove into the dance world at age four. After intensively studying ballet with Ballet Ouest in Montreal and Paula Groulx in Edmonton, she moved to Toronto and entered the Professional Training Program at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. At the School, she had the privilege of working with many gifted choreographers, including Margie Gillis and Tedd Robinson.

As an independent Toronto dance artist, Posyniak has performed in works by Susie Burpee, Jennifer Dallas, Jasmine Graham, Kate Nankervis, and Eroca Nicols. She co-founded with Jasmine Graham the Creative Republic Artist Collective, which produced This is Dance in January 2011. Posyniak choreographed and performed for Pocket Alchemy’s Scienceography: dances of physiology, psychology and entomology at the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival. With the Bone Gossip Dance Theatre collective, Posyniak created a work for four dancers entitled Carry-on baggage which premiered at the 2011 Edmonton International Fringe Festival.

In 2008 she performed and taught workshops as a member of flux, a graduate outreach project developed by the School for elementary and secondary students. Posyniak has been an assistant and teacher for the Young Dancers’ Program at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre since 2005. Her interest in childhood education lies in developing the child’s sense of identity through mobility and improvisation.
