Based in Toronto, Heidi Strauss is an independent dancer and choreographer. Since 1994 she has worked as a performer and collaborator with choreographers and directors for stage, film, and opera. She has toured with Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Sylvain Émard Danse, and Tribal Crackling Wind.
In 2007 Strauss founded adelheid, a company to support her choreographic work. Her solos have been presented in Europe and Canada. AtLast, (2005) and adelheid solos (2008) received three Dora Award nominations. Over the last three seasons she has been dance-artist-in-residence at the Factory Theatre. Her trio work as it is was named one of the top 10 dance shows of 2009 by NOW magazine, and in 2010 this time won Dora Mavor Moore Awards for outstanding choreography and performance. She has created numerous works for companies and professional training programs, and given workshops across Canada and in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, and Singapore.
In other capacities, Strauss has worked as a movement coach (Necessary Angel Theatre Company and Volcano Theatre), choreographer for opera (the Canadian Opera Company and the Frankfurt Opera) and rehearsal director (Chartier Danse, Peter Chin, and O Vertigo).
