Ginelle Chagnon

Ginelle Chagnon started her professional dance career in 1971 with Montreal’s Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.  After a short career in ballet, she turned towards the Limón technique and rapidly joined the contemporary dance movement.  While dancing in the 1980's, she finished her teacher’s diploma and played the role of rehearsal mistress for the companies Danse Partout and Montréal Danse.

Collaborating in different creative processes and understanding the outsider's perspective was important during the course of these years.  While working for these two companies she had the privilege of meeting Jean-Pierre Perreault in 1987 and Paul-André Fortier in 1989.  Both of these alliances eventually grew into long creative relationships.

As a freelance artist, Chagnon’s collaborative skills have been called upon by mature and young choreographers alike.  For a number of years, she has been part-time faculty at Concordia University’s Contemporary Dance Department.  She also pursues her teaching of contemporary dance technique and gives professional workshops in creative process or interpretation in Canada and abroad.  As a board member of the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault she works at preserving the choreographic legacy of its founder.
