Education & Outreach

The School is committed to developing the artistic potential of children and young people, and to acting as an advocate for dance and arts education within the community.  The School has a strong history of giving back to our students and our neighbourhood.  We believe that investing in dance and the arts is essential for a vibrant and thriving community.

Participating in cultural activities as children and young people has countless benefits, but is also the best predictor for cultural participation later in life.  The School provides a number of programs for our community to get involved:

  • Young Dancers’ Program for children and young people every Saturday
  • Sponsorship of two dancers each year from the St. Jamestown and Regent Park areas to participate in the Young Dancers’ Program
  • Contemporary Dance Classes for adults
  • Activities for schools, including matinées and master classes provided at the Winchester Street Theatre
  • A pedagogy practicum for our second year Professional Training Program students to develop their skills as creative movement teachers and take dance to local schools in the St. Jamestown area
  • Participation in community events such as the Cabbagetown Festival and Culture Days

We are always looking for more ways to reach out and welcome you to contact us if you would like more information or have an idea of your own!
