Christine Wright

Christine Wright began her serious dance training at the Washington School of Ballet where she studied for four years. There she won a prestigious scholarship from the National Society of Arts and Letters that allowed her at age 17 to move to New York City to train. She began studying full time with Maggie Black with whom she continued to study throughout her entire career. At the age of 18 she joined the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company where she remained for 11 years. She became an acclaimed dancer with the company, touring all over the country and around the world. She also became one of Lubovitch's assistants, helping him set works on the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Stuttgart Ballet, and the Washington Ballet, among others. While still with Lubovitch she also guested with other companies. She was a guest artist with the Elisa Monte Dance Company; worked with Blondell Cummings on a solo in conjunction with Music From Japan; worked on a special project with Ohad Naharin, who created a solo for her under the auspices of the Asia Society; and worked with Zvi Gotheiner. She retired from dancing in 1987.

Once retired, Wright started teaching a professional level open ballet class in New York City, as well as at New York University where she taught for several years. She has continued to teach her professional class for the last 24 years. Dancers from all disciplines study with her. She has professionals from the modern, ballet, and Broadway scenes in her classes. She is also a guest teacher on an on-going yearly basis with The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She has extensive study and expertise in functional anatomy and maintains a private practice where she works with both the dance and non-dance population.. Wright is a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.
